Those red high heels
Thursday, June 21st, 2007
She puts down her straw hat and pulls
her work gloves off. In the corner
lay her red high heels, almost new
but dusty from unuse. Past life’s
reminder, fun and glamorous
yet so empty, lonely and cold.
Ten years since, she’s taken them off.
Gently she runs fingers through hair
now streaked with gray and eyes herself
in the mirror. Dirt covered jeans
and shirt spoke volumes, like the worn
cowboy boots she prefers. A smile
lights up her countenance. She views
her callused hands, simply adorned
by a gold band on one finger.
And she kisses it as she turns
away from what she does not miss.

Wow, the first and only of your pieces that I’ve read. But I just wanted to say how beautiful! I’m looking forward to taking time and reading more.
God bless,
Bishop Ken
