This Woman
Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I heard this woman
take deep breath and sigh
So I looked into her eyes
and asked her why?
She smiled at me and said
Her love is gone forever lost
Not in her heart
but in a way she dreaded most
I could truly feel
how deeply hurt she’d been
For her troubled eyes
held a certain look so keen
Only I do fear
she had tried to pretend
her heart is okay
and is now on the mend
Aloud she said -
She must cry out in the rain
So no one need find
any reason to complain
And though her nights
are sadly drawn and lonely
In the light of day
she makes believe she’s happy
I tried to reason out
and make her understand
She must not go on
and suffer so out of hand
But she seemed lost
in a world of her own
Adrift in memories
that refuses to leave her alone
Perhaps she is thinking
of glories and times past
Believing in her heart
It’s the only way she’d last
While each day she lives
waiting for more tomorrows
to lessen the pain
and hide all her sorrows.
