Davao City, Philippines 2113
Masked faces of strange beings
all mere shadows of souls
grappling others for sustenance
Cockroaches scurrying along
black tar riddled monuments
worn down reminders of the past
No more beaches. Nothing but sand
dark and grey not pearly white
streaked with rotting remains
Everyday, acrid smoke permeates
on roads corroded by acid rain
filling the air with stench
No trace of what once was
not of dignity or humanity
not a shadow, none at all

Author’s Comments:One can only hope and pray, that this narrative fictional poem about the city and people of davao in the year 2113, remains just that: “fiction”. May it also serve as both a warning and a reminder, of what may and will in a sense happen, when we forget that our hope is in the Lord God. We are to be good stewards of God’s blessings and creations. We must love Him with all our hearts, minds and souls. We are commanded to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
