School Daze
Tuesday, August 11th, 2009
Books and more in bags to hustle
Packed lunches in paper or plastic
Crammed ideas stuffed in a sandwich
Jellies and jams by the jar consumed
Colored pens, crayons and pencils
Pads of paper to write and draw on
Tied up strings, reminders all
Back to school in a seeming daze

Thaw
Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

snow cloaks in silent white the gloom
winter’s own folly trimmed in flakes
yielding icicles, frozen lakes
silk veil, cast over Jaro’s womb
while from a heart of hope borrow
every wish and dream one can find
that worries and cares of the mind
thaw, birthing a new tomorrow
then numb the pain of sorrow’s friend
in melting ice and uttered spell
so misery that grow and dwell
in sadness’ lair, completely end

This Christmas
Tuesday, December 25th, 2007
Gifts
and bright
colored lights
strung on a tree…
are just ornaments.
We should find more delight
from a much greater presence
not presents wrapped in shiny foil.
The birth of Christ Jesus, remember
and be humbled by God’s mercy and love!

Far from home
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007
In
silence
choking back
poignant sadness
as I sit alone
so far away from home.
I miss the lighthearted mood
brought on by food and my kinfolks.
Nothing says Thanksgiving more clearly
than the warmth of one’s family and home.
Yldara/M. Stanphill
*** Just thinking of those who are far from their loved ones, those that miss their loved ones —May your hearts be filled with joy, hope, love, peace and thanksgiving, all through out the year.

Autumn Scenes
Monday, September 24th, 2007
orange to gold
in varied hues
dress the trees
leaves turning
red on maple
green no more
wild dahlias
and purple velvet
swaths of heaven
under walnut
and maple trees
fallen leaves

Another Birthday
Wednesday, August 15th, 2007
Happy birthday…may it be more,
more blessed than the one before
May today bring you happy tears
from friends and their good cheers
May God keep you going strong
May your life be full and long
May this day be just the start
Peace and joy be in your heart!

Springtime
Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

days of rain
yield spawning frogs
budding trees
buds afloat
on stream waters
greening leaves
bluebonnets
in fields of green and gold
royal blue

One Texas Summer
Saturday, August 4th, 2007
birthing mindless thoughts
swirling in hot blowing wind
sun parched earth and dust
pavements scorched by heat
mirage of fresh stream waters
rippled illusion

Thank you

How do you show appreciation to people
who do what they can, often even more?
Though times and odds may be against them,
they take faith and bring hope to your door.
When can you humbly just say thank you
for all the times they listened and cared?
Even as trials came and pursued them too,
they took heart and more fervently prayed.
Now, what can you give in just return
to let them know that they are loved dearly?
Where can you find that certain thing,
which is worth much more and is given freely?
Though I may not have all the answers,
about this much I know and will say is true:
A gift from the heart is what I bring;
and many heartfelt thanks, to all of you!

Nature’s newborn sleeps
Monday, June 4th, 2007
as icicles cling on the eaves
to announce winter’s call to arms
while sleet forms a coat of silver
on grass and limbs awaiting Spring
then the pitter patter of rain
creates a choir of rhythmic beats
to free the soil from winter’s chain
and wake the earth from its slumber
until blooms reign true once again
their fragrance wafting in the air
to kiss old winter’s cheeks goodbye
and welcome springtime in its place
