Heartstrings

Monday, August 13th, 2007

HeartstringsCrimson red roses
in bunches of threes
Perfumed love letters
each sealed with a kiss

Clumsy, silly excuses
in words softly spoken
Sweet chiming bells
don a heart, love stricken

Battling Dust Devils

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Battling Dust Devils

In front of an LCD screen
every morn before six o’clock
battling dust devils in my mind
waiting for that moment inspired.

The clock ticks in time to a beat
while I struggle with some phrases.
Looming at the back of it all
the breakfast I soon have to fix.

Before long I would hear noises
from sleepy heads one, two and three.
All, in unison cry: “Mommy,
where are you and what’s for breakfast?”

Right then, the day truly begins.
My poetry takes a backseat
to the call of motherhood
and duties of a wife, in love.

Tomorrow, I will start anew -
battling dust devils in my mind.

Beyond

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

BeyondAway from the pits of sin
gone through the world of fear
Amidst the pain of love and life
gaped from the light of stars

Cries of loneliness and hunger
sent forth to the highest mount
Dreams spun from threads of gold
unfold no secret of what lies beyond

Rebirth

Friday, August 10th, 2007

RebirthI cried my heart out
at the emptiness of my soul
The years cheated on me
life has taken its toll

I would have wept tears
but the well’s gone dry
Forever came all too soon
as time just had to fly

I tried so, in poetry
to be still and take rest
But tomorrow wailed,
wanting only my very best

So I listened hard
to the voice in my heart
Until another verse came
and a new poem I did start

After eight years of marriage

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

After eight years of marriage

realization comes not in subtle
or hushed tone of voice but rather loudly
with three young offspring around to scuttle;
demanding attention, rather proudly
prodding and asking questions doggedly.
How we manage to keep our sanity:
a miracle received confoundedly
in a bond with no room for vanity
that disciplines without profanity;
deeply cares without asking much at all.
To raise our level of humanity
from past mistakes we grew, God broke our fall.
Hope and faith, made our love stronger, better
and yes, it all started with a letter!

Whiners and Complainers

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Whiners and ComplainersOn the streets and everywhere,
whiners go about their business,
bemoaning their very state.
Closely trailing them in turn
are complainers of all types
sociopolitical in some areas
religious or anti-everything.
Their voices fill the air
like noisy buzzes and yelps.
They all cry out in unison
about something or the other
meandering their way into lives
that could care less.
Still, they exist for a reason.
Perhaps, as a simple reminder
that we were once poor in spirit.
To make us count our blessings.
Maybe, it is our turn to share
the love and mercy we received.
To help us be content
when we are not.

Springtime

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

Springtime

days of rain
yield spawning frogs
budding trees

buds afloat
on stream waters
greening leaves

bluebonnets
in fields of green and gold
royal blue

Dear God

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Dear GodA
thorn plucked
from the rose
that crowned a vase
reminds me of You.
You are my protector.
You keep me rather unique.
Some thought you were non-essential
and tried to rid me of your presence.
Do they know I am nothing without YOU?

Affected Reflections

Affected Reflections

Flickering under the light’s spell
grave thoughts, touches deep, the mind
begging for more, in wisdom find
reality, too deep a well

Dark and light merges, held to gel
by pieces scattered everywhere
dots connecting, in truth declare
vanity’s death, in peace now dwell

With memories, fate selected
fragments of time and directions
guiding, leading, all reflections
in life, of love, quite affected

One Texas Summer

Saturday, August 4th, 2007

One Texas Summerbirthing mindless thoughts
swirling in hot blowing wind
sun parched earth and dust

pavements scorched by heat
mirage of fresh stream waters
rippled illusion
